Antioxidant activity of the extracts from Pycnoporus sanguineus mycelium BABT
Borderes,Josiane; Costa,Alessandra; Guedes,Alessandro; Tavares,Lorena Benathar Ballod.
The aim of this work was to study the production of compounds with antioxidant activity by Pycnoporus sanguineus when cultivated in submerged fermentation using a potato dextrose broth plus peptone medium. The study evaluated the biomass production, glucose consumption, variation of medium pH and antioxidant activity. The antioxidant potential was tested through the DPPH method and β-carotene / linoleic acid system with extracts obtained from the mycelium at different times of cultivation (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 days). Maximum kinetic values of specific growth rate (0.289 day-1), biomass productivity (0.698 g.L-1.day-1) and the yield of glucose conversion into biomass (26.24 g.g-1) were obtained during the exponential growth phase. The highest...

ANTIOXIDANT COMPOUNDS IN SKIN AND PULP OF FRUITS CHANGE AMONG GENOTYPES AND MATURITY STAGES IN HIGHBUSH BLUEBERRY (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) GROWN IN SOUTHERN CHILE J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Ribera,A.E; Reyes-Diaz,M; Alberdi,M; Zuñiga,G.E; Mora,M.L.
We evaluated the genotype and maturity effects on antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds of whole, skin and pulp fruits from three highbush blueberry cultivare (cv. Brigitta, cv. Bluegold and cv. Legacy) grown in southern Chile. Total antioxidant activity (TAA) in ripe fruits varied among the cultivare in the order Legacy > Brigitta > Bluegold. We found that TAA in unripe green and fully ripe fruits was high and similar between them, whereas the lowest levels were found in intermediate ripe fruits. The same trend was observed for fruit total phenolic content. This could be attributed to the higher concentrations of phenolic acids (mainly chlorogenic acid) and flavonols (mainly rutin) at immature fruit stages; whereas the high TAA in mature...

Effects of 1-MCP onthe post-harvest quality of the orange cv. Pera stored under refrigeration Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Rosa,Cassia Inês Lourenzi Franco; Clemente,Edmar; Oliveira,Dalany Menezes; Todisco,Katieli Martins; Costa,Jose Maria Correia da.
ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to analyse the effects of 1-MCP upon the post-harvest quality of the orange cv. Pera stored for 45 days at a temperature of 7 ºC. The fruit was divided into four treatments, and then submitted to the application of three concentrations of 1-methylciclopropene (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0µL.L-1) for a period of 12 hours. The fruitwas again then stored at a temperature of 7 ºC. The rate of respiration was determined, together withcoloration of the epidermis, SS, TA, ratio, vitamin C, total carotenoids, phenolic compounds, total and reducing sugars, weight loss and juice yield. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (F-Test), and the averages were analysed by regression (P≤0.05). According to the results, it could be seen that...

Phenolic compounds from Virola venosa (Myristicaceae) and evaluation of their antioxidant and enzyme inhibition potential Acta Amazonica
FERNANDES,Kamila Rangel Primo; BITTERCOURT,Paulo Senna; SOUZA,Afonso Duarte Leão de; SOUZA,Antonia Queiroz Lima de; SILVA,Felipe Moura Araújo da; LIMA,Emerson Silva; ACHO,Leonard Domingo Rosales; NUNOMURA,Rita de Cássia Saraiva; TEIXEIRA,Ana Frazão; KOOLEN,Hector Henrique Ferreira.
ABSTRACT Virola venosa, popularly known in Brazil as ucuuba-da-mata, occurs naturally in the Amazon region and has potential to provide useful natural compounds, as already known for other Virola species. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the chemical composition of bark and leaf extracts of V. venosa, and to test the antioxidant capacity and α-glucosidase inhibition potential of their compounds. Polar extracts showed to be more active in both assays, therefore a bioactivity-guided fractionation was performed to identify the compounds that were responsible for the recorded activities. Using a combination of LC-MS/MS analysis and isolation with NMR identification, eight phenolic compounds were identified. Assays with pure compounds of...

Synthesis and DPPH scavenging assay of reserpine analogues, computational studies and in silico docking studies in AChE and BChE responsible for Alzheimer's disease BJPS
Yar,Muhammad; Arshad,Muhammad; Farooq,Ariba; Gilani,Mazhar Amjad; Ayub,Khurshid; Ejaz,Asma; Kumar,Anupriya; Ninomiya,Ichiya.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a fast growing neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system and anti-oxidants can be used to help suppress the oxidative stress caused by the free radicals that are responsible for AD. A series of selected synthetic indole derivatives were biologically evaluated to identify potent new antioxidants. Most of the evaluated compounds showed significant to modest antioxidant properties (IC50 value 399.07 140.0±50 µM). Density Functional Theory (DFT) studies were carried out on the compounds and their corresponding free radicals. Differences in the energy of the parent compounds and their corresponding free radicals provided a good justification for the trend found in their IC50 values. In silico, docking of compounds into...
